Recommended by a friend - Although I am still very much a beginner at identifying moths - what a brilliant site. This and Bernard Skinners book are all I need for now. Well done.

While hiking in Grenada I saw a plant devoured by black catipilars with yellow stripes. Someone told me it was the infant form of a hawk moth though the pictures of pre-adult hawk moths on your site don't match what I saw Do you know what I saw? Does this description bring any others to mind? thanks for your attention and a great web site.

Someone just put me on to this interesting site.

Can anyone identify this larva which I photographed in our Suffolk garden this afternoon? When extended it's over 2\" long. It's been suggested it may be that of a privet hawk moth.

You may also be interested in the hummingbird moth which I photographed on a warm and sunny afternoon in June.

My wife went to a Wildlife Trust meeting last evening and heard
a very interesting talk on moths so I searched for a moths website
and here I am. She picked up a guide to moths leaflet and left it
behind. Looks a very good site at first glance.

Great site, lots of info. Not had Tawny Pinion Yet, but have had Dusky-Lemon Sallow so that has made up for it!

Dear Ian,
Many congratulations on a fantastic site. I have been noticing lots of a certain moth that I identified quickly from your beginniers 20 as Emmelina monodactyla. Very impressive. I now just have to find out where the bind weed is hiding. This moth seems like a gardeners warning sign.

Thanks

Helped me with info about Hummingbird Hawk moth sighted in my garden
in Plymouth Devon last weekend.Never seen one before but your photos
are excellent.Thought it was an immigrant but not sure how common.
Saw another note on your site about this species so decided to add my observation.
