1115 Ancylis achatana

([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Wingspan 14-18 mm.

Another species which seems to be expanding its range. It is common locally in southern England, ranging northwards to Yorkshire where it has become more widespread in recent years.

It flies in June and July, and inhabits hedges and thickets, from where it can be disturbed during the day.

The larvae spin or roll together leaves of hawthorn (Crataegus) or blackthorn (Prunus spinosa) and feed within or nearby.
