1181 Epiblema grandaevana

(Lienig & Zeller, 1846)

Wingspan 21-30 mm.

One of the largest of the British Tortricidae, this is however a rare species. It was formerly established on the coast of north-east England until around 1910. Since then only scattered records have occurred, and the example shown was caught in Leicestershire in July 2001.

The adults fly generally in July, and the larvae feed on the roots of plants such as coltsfoot (Tussilago).
