1808 Sandy Carpet Perizoma flavofasciata

(Thunberg, 1792)

Wingspan 26-32 mm.

Easily distinguished from its allies by the pale sandy-brown markings on a whitish ground colour, this species is fairly common and widely distributed throughout England, Wales and southern Scotland, as well as parts of Ireland.

It flies from dusk onwards in June and July, and inhabits woodland, commons, chalky ground and other dry areas.

The larvae feed on the seed-pods of various campions (Silene spp.).
