2302a Guernsey Underwing Polyphaenis sericata

Wingspan c. 42mm.This quite distinctive species is now established on a number of the Channel Islands, and although it was first found on Guernsey in the late 19th century, it was only rediscovered in 1986.
The adult moths are mottled green and black above and have pale orange hindwings bordered with dark brown. The flight period is June to August.
The larval foodplants are honeysuckle (Lonicera) and oak (Quercus).
