2451a Minsmere Crimson Underwing Catocala conjuncta

(Esper, 1787)

Wingspan c. 55-60mm.

A single record of this species was found on the outside of a Mercury Vapour light trap at Minsmere, Suffolk on 14th September 2004, and remains the only record to date.

The species occurs in southern and south-eastern Europe beyond to North Africa and Asia.

It resembles several other Catocala species, but on close inspection has a diagnostic forewing pattern.
