Wingspan c. 12mm.A widespread but relatively uncommon species throughout much of mainland Britain, and local in Ireland, this species resembles several other Bryotropha species, in particular B. affinis and B. senectella.
The larvae feed on various mosses growing on walls, during April and May.
From June to August the adult moths are on the wing, and are often attracted to light.
