2392 Marsh Moth Athetis pallustris

(Hübner, 1808)

Wingspan 18-34 mm.

The males of this species are considerably larger than the females, which have more rounded forewings and tend to fly less readily.

It is a scarce and local species occurring these days only coastally in Lincolnshire, but until recently was breeding in the Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire fens.

The flight period is May and June, when the males come to light.

The larval foodplants are plantain (Plantago spp) and other low-growing plants.
