450 Hawthorn Moth Scythropia crataegella
(Linnaeus, 1767)
Wingspan 11-15mm.Fairly common in the southern half of Britain, but not occurring northwards of Yorkshire, this species is on the wing in July, when it can be attracted to light.
The larvae feed communally in a silken web spun on hawthorn (Crataegus), after initially mining the leaves. Other foodplants include blackthorn (Prunus spinosa) and Cotoneaster.
