Wingspan c. 13mm.This species is distributed widely but locally over much of the British Isles. It bears a resemblance to the rarer F. degreyana, but has a broader median fascia edged with whitish, and lacks the rosy flush usually present in that species.
Inhabiting limestone and heathland or moorland districts, the flight period of the adult moths is May and June.
The larvae live inside the seed capsules of primrose (Primula), lousewort (Pedicularis sylvatica) and goldenrod (Solidago), consuming the seeds.
