718 Ethmia dodecea

(Haworth, 1828)

Wingspan 17-21 mm.

With a scattered distribution in England, this striking species bears a superficial resemblance to the 'ermines' (Yponomeuta spp.), but the black dots are larger and fewer.

The larvae feed on common gromwell (Lithospermum officinale).

The habitat preference is scrubby or chalky downland, and the moths fly between May and July.
