Bee Moth Aphomia sociella - Distribution map

Please note that the NBN Gateway map service has been terminated as of 1 April 2017.

As soon as a replacement map service is available, distribution maps will hopefully appear here again.

In the meantime, you can get some idea of distribution from the NBN Atlas website.

Bee Moth Aphomia sociella

(Linnaeus, 1758)

Wingspan 18-44 mm.

This species is sexually dimorphic, the males being more brightly coloured and patterned than the females. Like some other members of the Galleriinae, the larvae feed on the comb inside bee and wasp nests.

The nocturnal adults are on the wing from June through to August, and can be attracted to light.

It is a fairly common species over most of Britain.
