Aplota palpella

(Haworth, 1828)

Wingspan c.12-14mm.

A rare but probably under-recorded species that has been noted in a number of southern English counties in recent years, after not being seen seen here since the 19th century.

The adult moths, which are quite retiring, have noticeable projecting labial palps. They are on the wing in July and August.

The larvae feed on mosses growing on walls, rocks or tree trunks, in silken galleries.
