Blastobasis lacticolella

Rebel, 1940

[Synonyms: decolorella]
Wingspan 18-21 mm.

Originally not a British species, this moth was accidentally introduced and appears to be established and expanding its range.

Its success is probably partly due to the fact that the larvae will thrive on a wide variety of foodstuffs, including leaf-litter, vegetation, and stored products.

It is quite a variable species, some being very plain, others quite well-marked.

The adult is nocturnal and comes readily to light in May and June and again in the autumn.
