Wingspan c. 12 mm.
A sea-cliff and coastal species occurring locally around the coasts of England, Wales and parts of Scotland. It also occurs around parts of the Irish coastline. Its pied appearance makes it a fairly distinctive member of the genus, if well-marked.
The larval foodplant is sea-campion (Silene maritima), feeding in spun shoots and possibly mining leaves when young.
The adult flies from about July to September, and can be attracted to light.
