Wingspan 9-13 mm.

A fairly common and widely distributed species in England, Wales and Scotland. In Ireland it is somewhat scarcer.

The moth inhabits birch woodland, and flies in June from dusk onwards.

The larvae feed in the catkins of the foodplant, birch (Betula).
