Striped Twin-spot Carpet Coenotephria salicata

(Curtis, 1830)

Wingspan 29-31 mm.

Mainly found on moorland in the northern and western parts of Britain, occasional specimens have appeared from time to time in the south-east.

Its mottled grey colouration gives rise to excellent camouflage when in its favoured resting place, on rocks and tree trunks.

The adults fly from May to July, and occasionally there is a limited second brood in the autumn.

The larvae feed on various bedstraws (Galium spp.)
