Coleophora striatipennella

Nylander [1848]

Wingspan c.12 mm.

A common and widespread species occurring in a wide variety of woodland and damp habitats.

The larval foodplants are stitchwort (Stellaria spp.) and mouse-ear (Cerastium spp.). The larvae feed on the seedpods, constructing a silken case which protrudes from successive pods as the larva grows.

The adults are on the wing, in one or two generations, from May till August. They resemble other striated Coleophora species, so genitalia identification is recommended.
