Clouded August Thorn Ennomos quercaria - Distribution map

Please note that the NBN Gateway map service has been terminated as of 1 April 2017.

As soon as a replacement map service is available, distribution maps will hopefully appear here again.

In the meantime, you can get some idea of distribution from the NBN Atlas website.

Clouded August Thorn Ennomos quercaria

(Hübner, [1813])

Wingspan c. 28-35mm.

Only doubtfully recorded in Britain on two occasions, once in the 19th century, then again in south-east England in 1992, this species occurs in mainland Europe, generally in the south, but is rather local.

The adults fly in June and July and are similar to September Thorn, but somewhat paler. The larvae feed on oak (Quercus spp.).
