Double-spot Brocade Meganephria bimaculosa

(Linnaeus, 1767)

Wingspan c. 50-58 mm.

With the exception of a couple of suspect records in the 19th century, the only record of this species in Britain is of one near Somerset in 1949.

It is to be found locally in southern and eastern Europe, where it flies between August and October.

The larvae feed on elm Ulmus and blackthorn (Prunus spinosa) or oak (Quercus).
