Cloaked Minor Mesoligia furuncula - Distribution map

Please note that the NBN Gateway map service has been terminated as of 1 April 2017.

As soon as a replacement map service is available, distribution maps will hopefully appear here again.

In the meantime, you can get some idea of distribution from the NBN Atlas website.

Cloaked Minor Mesoligia furuncula

([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Wingspan 22-28 mm.

A very variable species with a wide range of colour forms and patterns. One form, bicoloria, has the forewing sharply demarcated between pale and rufous. Other forms often show less contrast.

It is commonest around sand-dunes, grassy seaside slopes and other coastal habitats, but occurs in inland areas, with a distribution throughout the British Isles.

The moths fly between August and September, and the larvae feed on grasses.
