Scarce Black Arches Nola aerugula

(Hübner, 1793)

Wingspan 15-20 mm.

A rare migrant to Britain, although it was formerly resident in a small area of the Kentish coast. Nowadays it generally appears on the south and east coasts, averaging less than one record a year.

Abroad, it flies from June to August, and the larvae feed on bird's-foot trefoil (Lotus spp.) and clover (Trifolium).
