Notocelia incarnatana - Distribution map

Please note that the NBN Gateway map service has been terminated as of 1 April 2017.

As soon as a replacement map service is available, distribution maps will hopefully appear here again.

In the meantime, you can get some idea of distribution from the NBN Atlas website.

Notocelia incarnatana

(Hübner, [1800])

Wingspan c.17 mm.

Although rather similar in appearance to other Epiblema species, incarnatana can normally be distinguished by the rosy pink flush on the white ground colour, especially when freshly emerged.

Its distribution is generally coastal, inhabiting limestone and sandy areas. However inland chalk downland is also a suitable habitat though it is less commonly found inland. The species ranges in England from the south to the northern counties, as well as Wales and Ireland.

Flying from June to September, the adults can be attracted to light.

Rose is the foodplant, particularly burnet rose (Rosa pimpinellifolia), the larva feeding in spun leaves.
