Paramesia gnomana - Distribution map

Please note that the NBN Gateway map service has been terminated as of 1 April 2017.

As soon as a replacement map service is available, distribution maps will hopefully appear here again.

In the meantime, you can get some idea of distribution from the NBN Atlas website.

Paramesia gnomana

(Clerck, 1759)

Wingspan c.16-20 mm.

With only a couple of confirmed records in Britain from East Sussex in 1977 and 1983, and a doubtful one from Lancashire in the 19th century, this is a very rare visitor to these shores. It resembles a pale form of Clepsis spectrana and may have been overlooked.

It occurs in continental Europe and Asia, where it flies from June to August and is polyphagous, feeding on a range of plants in its dry grassland habitats.
