Phiaris metallicana

(Hübner, [1799])

Wingspan c. 16-19mm.

This submontane species is rather local in Britain, being found in parts of the Scottish Highlands

The adult moths gets its name from the metallic scales edging the darker portions of the forewing, though these are not always well-defined. Adults are on the wing in June and July.

The larva feeds on bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus), in spun leaves, and can be found in May and June.
