Plumed Prominent Ptilophora plumigera

([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Wingspan 33-44 mm.

Unusual amongst the Prominents, this is a late flying species, on the wing in November and December.

The males have very obviously feathered antennae, hence the name.

It is scarce and locally distributed on chalky ground in southern England, where the larvae feed on field maple (Acer campestre) and sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus).
