Synaphe punctalis

(Fabricius, 1775)

Wingspan 22-27 mm.

In Britain this species is restricted to the southern coastal counties, where it is locally common, occupying shingle, sand-dunes as well as chalky and other dry areas.

The females are darker than the males, and both sexes exhibit a rather long-legged appearance.

The flight period is June to August, and the males especially can be sometimes found flying in daytime, as well as at night.

The larvae feed on various mosses on the ground.
