Tinagma ocnerostomella

(Stainton, 1850)

Wingspan c.9mm.

Found locally in parts of south-east England, the adults of this species have fuscous colouration lightly speckled with white scales. They are active in the daytime, in June and July, flying around the foodplant and rest with the front of the body raised.

The larval foodplant is viper's bugloss (Echium vulgare), and the larvae feed inside the stems, on the pith.
