Uresiphita gilvata

(Fabricius, 1794)

[Synonyms: limbalis, polygonalis]
Wingspan 29-37 mm.

This quite large Pyralid looks unassuming when at rest, but in flight reveals bright orange hindwings with a blackish border, somewhat like the Yellow Underwings (Noctua spp.).

This European species is a scarce migrant to the southern and western coasts of Britain, occurring mainly in September and October.

On the continent the foodplants are low-growing herbaceous plants.
