Ypsolopha lucella - Distribution map

Please note that the NBN Gateway map service has been terminated as of 1 April 2017.

As soon as a replacement map service is available, distribution maps will hopefully appear here again.

In the meantime, you can get some idea of distribution from the NBN Atlas website.

Ypsolopha lucella

(Fabricius, 1775)

Wingspan c. 16-18mm.

Locally distributed mainly in the southern half of England, with occasional records further north, this species occupies oak woodland.

The adults have faintly reticulated forewings and are relatively straightforward to identify. They can resemple Y. alpella and Y. sylvella, however both these species lack the white head and central thorax of lucella.

Adults are on the wing in July and August, and the larvae feed in a slight silken spinning on the leaves of oak (Quercus).
