Jubilee Fan-foot Zanclognatha lunalis

(Scopoli, 1763)

[Synonyms: Herminia lunalis]
Wingspan 32-36 mm.

A very rare vagrant species, which has turned up in the British Isles on only two occasions. The first was in Buckinghamshire in August 1976 and the second more recently at Durlston Country Park in Dorset in July 2001.

The species is not known for its migratory habits, but both occurrences were during periods of high migrant activity.

The species is widespread elsewhere in western Europe, where it flies from June to August. The larvae feed on the withered leaves of a range of plants.
