This American species was discovered in 2001 as an adventive species, having been discovered as larvae feeding on imported pomegranates, and subsequent adult moths reared.

Although the species is known mainly from America, the pomegranates in which the larvae were found were believed to have originated from Spain, and indeed a number of records of this species are now emerging from Europe.

In its native haunts, the larvae feed on a wide range of pabula including a number of different fruits and other plants.

The adult shown is the first record for Fuerteventura.
