Wingspan 18-22 mm.
Formerly known only as a scarce migrant, this species colonised the south-east of England in the late 1950s and subsequently became established, spreading inland and northwards to the Midlands.
The moths fly in two generations; in May and then again in July and August, and can be attracted to light.
The larval foodplant is goosefoot (Chenopodium spp.)
