Borkhausenia minutella

Wingspan 10-14 mm.

Once a fairly common species in the U.K., it was until fairly recently believed extinct here, with the most recent record from Surrey in 1966. However it has been recorded from Margate in Kent annually between 2017 and 2019, attracted to MV light.

It is present in mainland Europe, though believed to be declining there too.

The larva feeds on dry vegetable matter and seeds, and is most often encountered around farm outbuildings and barns.

May and June is the normal flight period for the adult moths.
