In Britain this species is restricted to the Scottish Highlands, where it occurs in river valleys. Elsewhere It is found widely in continental Europe.
The larvae feed on yarrow (Achillea millefolium) and tansy (Tanacetum vulgare), initially feeding in a mine, and subsequently externally.
The pupa is a white, ribbed cocoon attached to a leaflet of the foodplant, and the moths begin to appear in July, overwintering as adults.
