Coleophora virgaureae
Golden-rod Case-bearer
37.08 BF564
[= obscenella]
Wingspan 10–13 mm.
This is a scarce and local species in Britain, with scattered records and an overall thinly distributed presence rather than a truly widespread one, though it is almost certainly overlooked.
The larva feeds on goldenrod (Solidago) forming a characteristic Coleophorid-style case, though it is suggested that rearing through to adult and probably genitalia determination would be required to fully identify.
The adults typically fly during July and August.
