Crambus silvella

(Hübner, [1813])

Wingspan c. 24mm.

This rather local moth frequents wet moorland and heathland habitats and is restricted to the south and south-eastern counties of England and southern Ireland. #

The adult moths fly in July and August and are attracted to light.

They are not too difficult to distinguish from similar species, due to the rather broad and rounded longitudinal white streak, with an elongate oval whitish blotch beyond.

The larvae feed on sedges (Carex spp.).
