This rather scarce and local species occurs in mature deciduous woodland habitats in southern England and Wales.
Little is known of the larval stages, but it is believed to feed under decaying bark or rotting wood.
The adult moths are somewhat nondescript, resembling Batia unitella, which however has a brighter yellow tone to the head and thorax area. They fly in May/June and are attracted to light.
