Striped Lychnis Cucullia lychnitis

Wingspan 42-47 mm.

A very local species, occurring only in a few scattered localities in the south of England, mainly in chalk or limestone districts.

The adults are on the wing during June and July, but are not often encountered except at light.

The distinctive caterpillar feeds on the flowers of dark mullein (Verbascum nigrum) and white mullein (V. lychnitis).
