A rare montane species in Britain, occurring only in the Scottish Highlands and Inner Hebrides, although there are older unconfirmed records from various localities in England.
The moths inhabit high moorland or boggy heathland, and fly from August until October, when they will hibernate until the following spring.
The larvae feed on various sallow (Salix) species, in a spinning among the terminal shoots.
