Epinotia sordidana

(Hübner, [1824])

Wingspan c.20mm.

Reasonably well distributed throughout much of mainland Britain, this species inhabits damp habitats, along streams, river banks and lakesides where the foodplant, alder grows.

The adult moths, which fly from August to October, are relatively innocuous and plain in appearance, but often show a slightly paler tornal blotch.

The larvae feed in a folded leaf of alder (Alnus glutinosa), causing the leaf to become puckered, and later rolls a leaf into a pod.
