Wingspan 13-19 mm.
Distributed fairly commonly in parts of south-western England, but more locally found further north. It is also present in south-west Ireland.
There is a single generation, with moths on the wing from the end of April into June. It prefers dry or stony habitats where the foodplant, goldenrod (Solidago) is to be found.
The larvae feed internally, initially in the flowers of goldenrod, and later in the stem.
