Wingspan c. 19mm.
With a widespread though generally coastal distribution, this species is however quite local and relatively uncommon.
It is a quite well-marked moth, having contrasting black and white markings, sprinkled with a subtle greenish-brown tone.
There is one generation, with adults at large in July and August. The moths rest by day on branches and fences covered with lichen. After dark they will come to light.
Lichens, especially Parmelia species, are the foodplants of the larvae.
