Small Fan-foot Herminia grisealis - Distribution map

Please note that the NBN Gateway map service has been terminated as of 1 April 2017.

As soon as a replacement map service is available, distribution maps will hopefully appear here again.

In the meantime, you can get some idea of distribution from the NBN Atlas website.

Small Fan-foot Herminia grisealis

([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Wingspan 24-28 mm.

This, the smallest of the Fan-foot group, is similar in pattern to the Fan-foot (Herminia tarsipennalis), but the dark subterminal line curves toward the wingtip, whereas in the latter species it is straighter.

The larvae feed on the leaves of a range of deciduous trees, often on withered and fallen leaves.

It is a relatively common species throughout most of Britain, and flies from June to August, when it is a regular visitor to the light-trap.
