The Saxon Hyppa rectilinea

(Esper, 1796)


Wingspan 38-44 mm.

An attractive species, which is distributed locally in central and northern Scotland, with the southern extent of its range in Cumbria in the north of England. In Ireland it is found in Co. Kerry.

It inhabits chiefly moorland habitat, and flies during June and July.

The caterpillars feed on a range of plants including sallow (Salix spp.), bramble (Rubus fruticosus) and bearberry (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi).
