Ochraceous Wave Idaea serpentata - Distribution map

Please note that the NBN Gateway map service has been terminated as of 1 April 2017.

As soon as a replacement map service is available, distribution maps will hopefully appear here again.

In the meantime, you can get some idea of distribution from the NBN Atlas website.

Ochraceous Wave Idaea serpentata

(Hufnagel, 1767)

Wingspan c. 22mm.

There are a number of old records from mainland Britain, though some of these are doubtful, and there have been no records on the mainland since 1909. In Jersey, a small colony was discovered in 1941 and in 1984 one was found in Guernsey.

In Europe, the adults fly in June and July. They are similar in appearance to Bright Wave Idaea ochrata, but tend to have a stronger ground colour and markings, and a more rounded appearance to the forewings.

The larvae are believed to feed on various grasses in the wild.
