Grey Carpet Lithostege griseata

([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Wingspan 28-31 mm.

A plain but subtly attractive species, which is restricted to the dry, stony Breckland district of East Anglia.

The adults, which can be flushed in the daytime, generally fly at night between May and July.

The caterpillars are green with a pale line along the side, and feed on the developing seeds of flixweed (Descurainia sophia) and treacle mustard (Erysimum cheiranthoides).
