This rather nondescript-looking species is to be found throughout southern England, ranging northwards to Yorkshire.
It inhabits gardens and hedgerows, where the foodplants hawthorn (Crataegus) and cherry (Prunus) occur. It also sometimes feeds on apple (Malus). The larva spins leaves together, feeding within.
The adult moths fly in July, during the day if it is sunny, and later towards dusk.
