This rather distinctive species unfortunately appears to be no longer present in Britain. It was present in parts of Norfolk and Suffolk in the 19th century, and was rediscovered in one locality in Norfolk in the late 1960s. However there have been no recent records and it is now though to be extinct as a British species.

The larva feed on hoary mullein (Verbascum pulverulentum), the scarcity of this plant probably contributing to the moth's demise.

The adult moths occurred between May and September, probably in two generations.
