Eastern Nycteoline Nycteola asiatica

(Krulikovsky, 1904)

Wingspan c.26-28mm.

A rare immigrant species from mainland Europe and beyond, the first record was at Spurn in East Yorkshire in September 2002. Since then there have been a number of additional records, mostly from coastal migration points.

It is similar to Oak Nycteoline in appearance, and although external differences have been described, it is likely that avoucher specimen would be needed for confident identification.

Abroad, the larvae feed on poplar (Populus) and sallow (Salix).
